New Musical “Upstairs” Offers a Familiar View of LGBTQ*

The new musical The View UpStairs, is making its West Coast premiere at Celebration Theatre. The musical which features book, music and lyrics by Max Vernon is a sort of nostalgic, slightly politicized and gaycentric piece that raises comparisons of violence toward the modern LGBTQ community and the early 1970s, where community was a much different word and idea.

Choir Boy Hits All the Right Notes

Playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney is on the cusp of greatness. A young, tremendously gifted wordsmith, McCraney’s work thus far is vibrant, funny, searing, and above all painfully human. And with only a few plays to his credits, it is exciting to imagine where this talented man is going to take us next. For now, we have Choir Boy, playing at the Geffen Playhouse.
